RAS Facilities

We specialize in the delivery of complete RASfacilities, which are designed to optimize water quality and minimize environmental impact. Our RAS facilities are built to ensure high production efficiency and reliability, with a focus on sustainability and cost-effective operations. We offer everything from design and engineering to installation and commissioning, and we are with the customer throughout the process to ensure a successful outcome.

Water treatment

The fish should thrive in an aquatic environment that throughout the production cycle is affected by nutrient turnover. Waste substances from fish are removed from the system using various processes in the RAS department. In this way, the water supplied to the production units is kept fresh and the need for new water from the environment is reduced. With reduced water demand, there is also less need for energy for heating the production water. A RAS solution ensures stable water quality with reduced resource use.

RAS Processes

We tailor our facilities to the customer's wishes. Basic need is good handling of particles from feed turnover. With gentle filtration, the waste can be further utilized as a nutrient for circular energy production.

The heart of the RAS facility is the biofilter where specialized bacterial cultures handle waste products from the fish's digestion. Water saturated with carbon dioxide from the fish's exhalation is handled in aeration systems, and fresh oxygen is supplied to the purified water before returning it to the production units.

Filtration and gas removal can be further complemented by use of processes that deal with demanding microorganisms and fine particulate wastes, such as UV treatment and oxidation methods consisting of ozone or AOT.

Engineered Solutions

VAQ AS offers design assistance to our customers for projects of all sizes. It involves extensive complete fish farms, but also partial processes and simple installations. These can be systems for intake purification, sludge treatment or optimization of existing systems. The solutions or sub-components are adapted, installed and commissioned at the customer's premises.
